The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Developmental Follow-up Clinic in Erie extends the care your baby received in the NICU by:

• Monitoring your baby’s cognitive, language, and motor skills.
• Providing you with suggestions on encouraging developmental progress.
• Identifying developmental delays as early as possible and making referrals to appropriate community services.

How We Plan Your Visits

Although children typically have one follow-up every six months until the age of two, the frequency of visits is determined by the needs of each child. Because babies born early, sick, or small may be at risk for developmental delays, it’s important to always take note of your child’s development.

Call if you have concerns that your child is not meeting age-appropriate milestones to set up an earlier appointment.

Early Intervention

All NICU babies are referred to Early Intervention, a free community service. Early Intervention specialists will examine your child for learning needs. They will call you to set up the first visit.

More information about Early Intervention will be provided at a later date if needed.
