UPMC is committed to helping patients, families, and care partners throughout the transplant journey.
The UPMC Transplant Guardian Angels program supports patients throughout the transplant process. A member of our Transplant Guardian Angels team will act as your companion and liaison between you and your transplant care team. They will also provide emotional support for you, your family, and other support persons. You are not alone on this journey.
Your Transplant Guardian Angel will:
- Accompany you as you navigate UPMC Presbyterian.
- Assist in getting you into your room or preoperative holding area.
- Communicate and interact with the hospital’s multidisciplinary team.
- Guide you, your family, and your care partners through the hospital registration.
- Provide companionship during the transplant admission as well as throughout the transplant stay.
- Offer logistical information regarding UPMC, our Oakland campus, and the greater Pittsburgh community. This includes guidance on lodging if needed.
- Serve as a health advocate.
- Act as a point of contact for your family during the transplant surgery.
Personalized Transplant Support
UPMC Transplant Guardian Angels are here to help you by providing personalized, non-medical care and support. Many of our Guardian Angels are undergraduate college students in the medical field. The UPMC Transplant Guardian Angels program is one of the only programs that promotes this kind of care.
