Frequently Asked Questions

On this page:

What is UPMC eDermatology?

UPMC eDermatology is a type of E-Visit for non-emergent dermatology care for a variety of conditions. UPMC's leading dermatology experts, including pediatric dermatology providers, are available through this service.

Before your E-Visit:

  • You will be asked about your skin concerns along with questions about your medical history.
  • You will upload 3-5 photos related to your skin condition.
  • You will be asked to share your health information with your provider.

For pediatric patients, proxy access is necessary for consults to be submitted and completed. The process takes about 15 minutes. The dermatology providers can offer a diagnosis, recommended treatment plan, and medication, if needed, within three business days.

UPMC eDermatology is only available in Pennsylvania. E-Visits with UPMC Dermatology are secure, HIPAA-compliant, and accessible via MyUPMC. They are not video visits or in-person visits.

  • Requesting care for yourself: You must be at least 18 years old and be physically located in Pennsylvania as your current location for the duration of the visit.
  • Requesting care for a child: The child can be any age. You must be the child’s parent or legal guardian, and you and the child must both be located in Pennsylvania.
  • Requesting care for an adult to whom you have proxy permissions in MyUPMC: You can initiate a UPMC eDermatology visit for the adult from within MyUPMC, a UPMC patient portal. Be sure to have that patient selected in the account menu drop-down to submit a visit for that patient.
