Surgical Services

Eight operating suites are in use at  theUPMC Mercy South Side Outpatient Center, including four state-of-the-art digital operating rooms. Surgical Services offers a wide range of outpatient surgical procedures, from knee arthroscopies to cataract surgery. Services available include:

  • General surgery
  • Ear, nose, and throat
  • Ophthalmology
  • Podiatry
  • Plastic surgery
  • Orthopaedics/sports medicine

Surgical Procedures

The list of procedures conducted at the surgery center is vast, but includes:

  • Arthroscopy
  • Knee reconstruction
  • Tendon repair
  • Bunionectomy
  • Tonsillectomy
  • Myringotomy tubes
  • Cataract surgery
  • Bone spur removal
  • Hernia repair
  • Fracture repair
  • Breast implants
  • Liposuction

Please ask your surgeon if same-day surgery may be appropriate for you. 

Services for Families

We understand that surgery is a stressful time for both patients and their families. To help make their stay as comfortable as possible, we offer a Patient Education and Family Resource Center located on the third floor of the facility. The staff in this area will provide hourly updates to your family on the progress and status of your surgery. If family members choose to leave the area, they can leave contact information with our staff, who will contact them with updates. Computer access also is available.
