What is a Sleep Study?

A sleep study — or polysomnogram — consists of placing small electrodes on your scalp, face, and legs.

It is entirely painless.

While you sleep, our technologists will monitor your:

  • Air flow from your nose and mouth
  • Body movements
  • Heart rate
  • Oxygen saturation

Most sleep studies take two nights to complete. Occasionally, there are disorders that may require additional studies.

The center's doctor will determine if you need further studies or other procedures.

If you have questions or would like to make an appointment at the Center for Sleep Disorders, call 412-692-2880. Or, request an appointment online.
