Across our seven hospitals in the region, our teams are ready to assess and treat children with urgent needs. Plus, we have access to pediatric emergency care experts 24/7 at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh if necessary.

Some hospital visits may lead to overnight stays. Our family-centered teams are ready to care for your child close to home.

UPMC Children's at UPMC Harrisburg has a 72-bed inpatient unit staffed with child life specialists, physicians, and nurses focused on caring for newborns through young adults with mild or critical needs.

For babies who are born early, critically ill, or with a congenital difference, four of the region’s hospitals have a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) providing around-the-clock care.

UPMC Harrisburg is a level III NICU, caring for babies who are more critically ill, very premature, or who require surgery. The unit is on the ninth floor of the Alex Grass Medical Sciences Building, with 42 beds available to support our smallest patients.

Neonatal intensive care is also available at UPMC Lititz (level III), UPMC Memorial (level II), and UPMC Carlisle (level II).

UPMC Children’s in Central Pa. has a dedicated and specialized pediatric ground and air transport team to transfer neonatal and pediatric patients from other hospitals to UPMC Harrisburg if higher-level care is needed.

As part of UPMC Children's Specialty Services, our pediatric surgical team provides comprehensive surgical care for conditions like abdominal pain, hernia, pectus excavatum and carinatum, tongue tie, and more.

Simple to complex procedures are conducted at UPMC Harrisburg for newborns to young adults. Patients aged 3 and older can receive general outpatient surgery procedures, such as inguinal (groin) hernias, umbilical (belly button) hernias, skin lesions, circumcisions or revisions of circumcisions, and gallbladder removal, at UPMC Lititz.

Families can receive initial and follow-up surgery evaluations in York as well.

• UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute's pediatric cardiology specialists provide comprehensive pediatric cardiac care.
• UPMC orthopaedic and sports medicine specialists provide the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options in the region to address the full scope of pediatric orthopaedic conditions.
• UPMC Hanover Pediatric Rehabilitation provides physical, occupational, and speech/dysphagia therapy for children from birth until age 18.
• UPMC Western Psychological Associates offers pediatric behavioral health services for conditions such as ADHD, mood disorders, trauma issues, and more.
• Specialty Care ENT-UPMC and York ENT specialize in providing care for conditions involving the ear, nose, and throat (ENT).
• A team of sleep medicine specialists can conduct comprehensive sleep assessments, including an overnight sleep test if necessary for pediatric patients.
• The Neonatal Developmental Follow-up Clinic collaborates with providers, including our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) teams, to provide support and guidance for children from infancy to age 3 with unique medical and developmental needs.
