UPMC Senior Care—Shadyside provides ongoing, routine, and preventive medical care to adults age 60 and older. Patients of UPMC Senior Care—Shadyside enjoy the advantage of having many levels and types of care at one outpatient location.
Services include primary and specialty care, health education, counseling, and psychotherapy.The center’s staff includes geriatricians, geropsychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and social workers, who work together to create a care plan tailored to each individual patient.
UPMC Senior Care—Shadyside experts also provide practical tips about preventing falls; help patients who have problems with bladder control, persistent confusion, or memory loss; and help manage prescriptions, all on an outpatient basis.

To meet the often complex needs of older adults, UPMC Senior Care is one of the largest academic and clinical geriatrics programs in the country, with approximately 25 trained geriatricians and geriatric psychiatrists to address aging related problems.
Lifeline is a personal emergency response system designed to help elderly or disabled persons maintain their independence. The hospital provides this community service to enable individuals to live alone with confidence and reassurance that help is available when needed. This program gives families a short break from the care they provide to their older loved ones. Respite Care offers short-stay nursing home care that includes use of a comfortable semi-private room and 24-hour nursing care. Additional arrangements can be made for special services such as a beauty and barber shop, physical therapy, podiatry, speech therapy, and dentistry.
