UPMC Content 2

“What can I do if I’ve lost the desire to be intimate or experience pain with intercourse?”

Sexual dysfunction can mean a number of things including the following:

  • Sexual desire disorders
  • Female sexual arousal disorders
  • Female orgasmic disorders
  • Sexual pain disorders

The most common of these disorders is a sexual desire disorder called hypoactive sexual desire disorder which can affect up to one in eight women. Other common concerns are due to pain with intercourse and can be caused by a variety of factors including:

  • Endometriosis
  • Vulvar disorders
  • Pelvic inflammation or infection

At the Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology, we are here to help you overcome these difficult problems.

The first step to treating sexual dysfunction is getting a deeper understanding of your pain.  Our physicians can help you to find the source of your concern and take the first steps towards managing it.  Some of these disorders can be treated with topical creams or oral medications.  In rare cases, surgery may be an option.

Regardless of whether you are still having menstrual cycles or not or if your pain is new or old, we have a variety of treatment options to help you.
