Bariatric Surgery at UPMC Horizon

Based in Greenville, Pa., the bariatric surgery program at UPMC Horizon has been named a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

UPMC Horizon utilizes a multidisciplinary team of bariatric physicians, nurses, dietitians, wellness and exercise staff, financial counselors, and psychologists who are committed to the long-term success of each patient.

The care and treatment plan of each patient is managed by the bariatric program coordinator, ensuring a comprehensive and seamless approach to the provision of care.

Support Resources and Groups

Non-surgical weight management support

  • One-on-one meetings with bariatric staff to discuss non-surgical options
  • Dietitian and fitness support services offered in both groups and individually through the wellness center

Surgical Weight Management Support

  • Educational sessions offered several times each month that offer information related to surgical weight loss options
  • One-on-one preoperative nutritional assessment
  • 3-6 month preoperative classes designed to prepare patients for bariatric surgery as well as integrating the necessary lifestyle changes
  • Appointments at the wellness center to assist with exercise programs as needed
  • Nutritional support as needed
  • The Bariatric Clothing Exchange program, offered in conjunction with the Good Shepherd Center in Greenville, allows bariatric surgery patients to bring in their old clothes and exchange them for smaller sizes as they lose weight.
