Vice President of Surgical Services, UPMC Hamot
Emmett T. Verdecchia is the vice president of Surgical Services. Mr. Verdecchia assumed responsibility for all surgical services at UPMC Hamot, the Surgery Center, and the UPMC Hamot Women's Hospital in December 2009.
In this position, he oversees the day-to-day operations for the following functions as they relate to the surgical service line: operating room, anesthesia, supply chain, information systems, perfusion, finance, quality, and pre-admission testing.
Additionally, Mr. Verdecchia and his team work closely with each service line leader at UPMC Hamot to ensure the highest-quality care for our surgical patients.
Mr. Verdecchia joined Hamot (now UPMC Hamot) in May 2001. In July 2004, he was appointed administrative director of the Surgery Center. Previously, he served as manager of UPMC Hamot's Center for Digestive Diseases as a clinical perfusionist, and as director of Minimally Invasive. In that role, he helped oversee the addition of the minimally invasive operating suites, as well as the startup of the bariatric surgery program.
Mr. Verdecchia is a graduate of Hamot's Respiratory Therapy School. He earned a bachelor's degree in cardio-respiratory sciences from SUNY at Stony Brook and a master's degree in health services administration from Gannon University. He and his wife, Mary Beth, have two children, Nicole and William.
