UPMC has met the Champion level of achievement via the Southwestern Pennsylvania Sustainable Business Compact. This is the highest level of sustainability performance of any regional company recognized by the Compact to date.
Sustainable Pittsburgh affects decision-making in the Pittsburgh region to integrate economic prosperity, social equity, and environmental quality bringing sustainable solutions to communities and businesses.
The Compact contains over 170 sustainable actions (called sustainable essentials) among 12 major sustainability categories, including some of the following:
The essentials are grouped according to difficulty to implement, and degree to which they reflect outward recognition of performance. Different point levels are assigned according to the degree of difficulty and outward recognition.
