For more than 30 years, UPMC has been a leader in the field of transplantation, giving hope to thousands of patients living with life-threatening organ failure. From the early years when Dr. Thomas E. Starzl pioneered a new field of surgery, to the development of immunosuppressive therapies, UPMC continues to participate in advanced clinical research creating alternative life-giving transplant options for patients around the world.
