Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery Options and Costs

The staff at each UPMC Bariatric Surgery Center location will help you assess weight loss surgery options and costs, as well as pre- and postoperative care.

Bariatric Surgery Insurance Coverage

Many insurance plans cover the bariatric surgery cost.

Review your insurance policy to see:

  • If weight loss surgery is a covered service
  • How much you may be expected to pay yourself
  • If you must meet any additional requirements for coverage

For bariatric surgery, insurance companies usually require at least six to 12 consecutive months of documented diet history. Many also require nutrition and psychiatric consultations.

UPMC's Presurgical Lifestyle Program meets these insurance requirements.

Our office staff is available through every step of the process, to provide you and your insurance plan with additional information and details of bariatric surgery costs.
